Strength Exercises:
Strength exercises make your muscles work harder, which causes the strengthening and increase in muscle mass. This is achieved through "tension based exercises" like push ups or squats. However, it is important that when you start a new exercise/activity you should take it slowly at first and increase as your body gets used to the motion. If some part of your body doesn't feel right or you feel pain while doing an exercise, then stop what you are doing and check it out with your doctor. Strength exercises are great ways to improve strength, endurance and make those muscles and bones healthier. Use mat when you doing exercises that involve laying on the floor.
To remember and keep in mind:
- Give your muscles at least 2-3 days of rest in between each workout, because your body isn't used to working so hard. Consider a substitute, do every second day flexibility exercises or yoga to give your muscles time to rest.
- Keep track of what you do every time by writing it down in a journal. This way you can see how you improve each day and may give you a chance to think of goals you would want to reach day by day.
- Use other activities to push you forward:
- Gymnastics
- Swimming
- Rock climbing
- Skiing
- Water aerobics
- Apply in everyday life:
- Climbing stairs
- Lifting groceries
- Snow shoveling
